Black & White Days

This past weekend was Richmond City's Black & White Days.

What?  You haven't heard of it?!  Well you missed out!!  It was like a county fair but without all the crazy people.  

First, we started out on Saturday with a Candy Cannon and Mason got quite a bit of candy since there weren't hoards of kids there.  Reese helped him gather the candy while I fed Jaylee a bottle (SUCCESS!-see post below for explanation of why I am so excited about her taking a bottle).

Right after...and I mean RIGHT AFTER Mason collected candy from the cannon shoot, he ran over to the "train" and hopped into the caboose (his favorite train car besides the engine).

Of course he LOVED it!

Mason said that this is "Mason's horse."

Here they are in the Cow Pie eating contest.  They were supposed to eat without their hands but when the lady said "Go!" Mason picked up his cow pie (no bake cookie) and took a bite.  Reese told him that he needed to eat it without hands.  So Mason put it down and said "Daddy eat it."

But then he picked it up and walked over to show me his cookie.

Jaylee also enjoyed all the festivities.

This kid, Keegan is 3 years old, just turned 3 in March, and was in a horse show!  He was really good too!  In fact, he won his group!  We talked to his mom and told him that we were impressed and that Mason can only ride a scooter.  Her reply was that Keegan probably wouldn't be able to ride a scooter.

while we watched, laughed and reminisced about how little he used to be.

There was also a bunny chase for the kids.  Whoever caught the bunny was able to keep it!  Mason didn't catch it...thank goodness.  I don't think we are ready for a bunny right now.  Besides, all he wants are trains and tractors right now anyway.  This picture is of only half the kids that were chasing after a tiny, very scared bunny.

That night-Saturday- we went to the Horse Pulls.  Yeah, I had never heard of them either.  The basic gist  of horse pulls is that a two-horse team pulls a steel sled that weighs 2500 pounds 20 feet in order to "make the pull"!!  Doesn't sound impressive? Well they add 1000 pounds a round for whoever can pull the previous weight.  The horses are HUGE and a team (2 horses) can weigh from 2700 lbs up to 4500 lbs!! 

There are 3 divisions of teams-Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight.  

The winner of the Lightweights pulled 8,000 lbs about 10 ft.

Middleweight's winning team pulled 7,500 and the team was driven by an 11-year-old boy

The Heavyweight's winner was won by pulling 9,000 lbs!!

It's something you have to see in person to really appreciate.
